At this point almost everyone has come across the shallow promise of CMSs — use them and your content problems will be solved. Most of our clients now realise that, though CMSs play an essential role, it’s training and motivating staff to create good content that matters most of all. Well, in the world of web analytics, it’s a similar story.
Avinash Kaushik, who writes one of the best web analytics blogs around, proposes the 10/90 rule for magnificent analytics success. The gist of it? Spend 10% of your resources on the software, and spend the rest on capable people who can actually pull the handful of needles from the haystack.
Google Analytics, since it’s free and easy to use, certainly makes it easier to find those needles. And it even makes those needles pretty big. Still though, web analytics takes time and expertise. You have to be willing to invest in that to really get the good stuff out of your web analytics programme. If you’re interested in web analytics, you should definitely take a look at Avinash’s blog, Occam’s Razor.
