eSymposium Conference: Web Analytics Presentation and Resources
– posted October 24th, 2007 by Morgan McKeagney No comments
eSymposium is a pretty unique conference, hosted annually by Tourism Ireland, that’s focused exclusively on how organisations working in the tourism industry can use the internet as an effective sales and marketing tool.
Most of the big issues were touched on yesterday, from user experience through to search engine marketing and user generated content, with a variety of top notch speakers on display.
Deputising for our very own Brian Donohue, I was talking about how tourism organisations can use web analytics to increase conversion rates and measure the effectiveness of their online marketing spend. I also provided some pointers as to how people could go about setting up an effective programme.
Useful web analytics resources
I promised yesterday to post some useful analytics resources for people who wanted to learn more. So here goes:
- Author of “Web analytics, an hour a day”, Avinash Kaushik’s blog: Definitely one of the most thoughtful and insightful analytics blogs around.
- Buy all of Eric’s books! Eric Peterson has written, or co-written, 3 books. The main one, Web Analytics Demystified, is the closest thing to being a definitve text. The others are better than everything else out there as well.
- Search Analytics This is the first and only book on this brand new field. Useful and practical, but likely to be superseded by the upcoming book from Lou Rosenfeld.
- Web Analytics: An Hour a Day another must-read book on analytics
- How to Choose a Web Analytics Solution: Bryan Eisenberg’s ClickZ article, brief version of standard advice
- How to Choose a Web Analytics Tool: A Radical Alternative. A required read.
If you’re interested, you can also download my presentation (PDF, 2MB). If you need more help, feel free to check out our analytics services and/or get in touch.
Credits and thanks
Thanks to Tourism Ireland for hosting the day and inviting us along. Thanks to Brian Clifton of Google for preparing and providing the tourism case study that I presented yesterday. Thanks too to our own Brian Donohue for preparing the iQ Boot Camp case study, which also featured in my presentation.
Comments / feedback?
If you attended my session, I’d be really interested in hearing your feedback. Was it interesting? Did you learn anything? Any ideas for improvement?
