Bootcamp got me thinking about Basecamp. Previously, in Basecamp, you’d receive a project message notification by mail. Messages in the context of a project often need a response quickly but to respond, you needed to log in to Basecamp, rather than just replying.

While it wasn’t quite as bad as the poor Facebook experience, “Someone sent you something about something”, it needed to improve.

Designing for context

The new feature is incredibly powerful. The design takes into account a user’s context, particularly in this age of “continuous partial engagement.

The new reply feature allows me to quickly respond to a message with minimum disruption, rather than loading up the browser, logging into Basecamp and disrupting my flow.
