Public sector usability guidelines

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has published a set of comprehensive web design and usability guidelines. It's a large a 128 page, 39.2MB .pdf book (which raises some usability issues itself), but it does contain a lot of useful information.

Forrester Usability Report

Forrester consultants looked at 375 sites from a usability perspective. Retailers do well, telco service providers and B2B sites poorly. The conclusion? 'To improve usability, firms must adopt Scenario Design - and focus on their most important users.'

UK Government issues usability guidelines

The Office of the e-Envoy's in the UK has published its Quality Framework for UK Government Website Design which aims to ensure government websites 'incorporate users needs in their web design process'. But Louise Ferguson, a council member of the UK Usability Professionals Association, thinks the Government's good intentions be defeated by serious flaws in its execution.
